B-CU Head Coach Brian Jenkins Declines Jackson State Interview Request

After reports indicated that  Jackson State reached out to Bethune-Cookman head coach Brian Jenkins to guage his interest in its vacant head football coach vacancy, Jenkins on Thursday declined an interview request.

“I am honored to have a school with a rich history of football like Jackson State University consider me for their head coaching vacancy,” said Jenkins in a press release. “It not only speaks volumes about how highly they think of me and my coaching philosophy, but also that of my coaching staff. After all, none of the success we’ve enjoyed over the last four years would be possible without a dedicated staff and great student-athletes. A year ago this time, Dr. Edison O. Jackson and Lynn Thompson showed their tremendous support not only of me, but towards my staff and family, when they extended my contract at Bethune-Cookman University.”

JSU officials contacted B-CU athletic director Lynn W. Thompson Tuesday night to get permission to speak with Jenkins, according to the Clarion-Ledger.

Jenkins, who is in the first year of a contract extension with B-CU, lead the Wildcats to a MEAC championship in 2013 with a 10-3 overall record.

JSU fired head coach Rick Comegy on Dec. 18 following the SWAC Championship game.

JSU is also scheduled to interview former player Harold Jackson Thursday, according to reports.
